Gem Silica (bk-7)

About Gem Silica:

This stone is mined from Ray Mine near Globe, Arizona.  There are other sources worldwide however the most striking specimens come from this location.  It is composed of Chrysocolla in clear Quartz. Chrysocolla, which provides the color for this stone, is rarely found in a large enough amount to cut.  However when it forms along with Quartz the amazing color stands out while the Quartz lends its hardness and ability to take a glossy polish.  Chrysocolla is rarely found with out the pracesence of other stone - Malachite, Azurite and Cuprite are common mixes.  Gem Silica is one of the few stones where the Chrysocolla stands alone.
